Balanced mechanical seals and unbalanced mechanical seals

    The pressure in the mechanical seal chamber acts on the moving ring to form a closing force, and the liquid film between the end surfaces forms the opening force. The load factor K>1, the seal is an unbalanced mechanical seal. General non-balanced mechanical seals can only be used for low pressure. When the pressure is greater than a certain limit, the liquid film between the sealing surfaces will be squeezed out. Under the effect of loss of liquid film lubrication and high load, the seal face of the mechanical seal will be quickly damaged. Unbalanced mechanical seals do not balance the effect of liquid on the end face, and the end face specific pressure rises as the fluid pressure rises.

The opening force of the seal does not change, but due to the large area of the ring being exposed to the liquid, the closing force is balanced a considerable portion. In this case, the proportion of hydraulic pressure in the closing force is increased to offset the opening force of the liquid film between the mechanical seal faces. The balanced mechanical seal can partially balance the effect of the liquid on the end face, and the end face pressure rises slowly as the fluid pressure rises. General non-equilibrium mechanical seals can only be used for low pressure, but for poor lubricating performance, low boiling point, easy vaporization medium and high speed working conditions, even under low pressure, balanced mechanical seals should be used. Because for unbalanced mechanical seals, when the pressure in the mechanical seal chamber rises, the liquid film between the sealed end surfaces will be extruded, and the seal surface of the mechanical seal will be damaged quickly. Balanced mechanical seals can be used in a variety of pressure applications.
